Twitter pauses verifications (again) after giving fake accounts blue checks

Twitter has stopped taking applications for official verification of accounts yet again,

The pause in granting the much-coveted ‘blue checks’ came after Twitter admitted that some fake accounts had been granted verification.

Twitter has paused its verification program back in 2017 after backlash over granting a blue check to one of the organizers behind the Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville.

It reopened the program earlier this year and then paused it a week later due to overwhelming demand. It opened it a few weeks later only to close it now again.
