Highlight raises $11M for web3 no-code fan clubs of the future

Highlight has closed an $11 milliuon seed fundiing to build out a platform that empowers musicians and other creators to create no-code web3 based fan communities.

The round was led by Haun Ventures with additional funding from 1kx, Polygon Studios, Coinbase Ventures, SciFi VC and Thirty-Five Ventures.

Highlight’s launch statement reads: “We started Highlight because we believe that digital ownership, powered by blockchains, is the clearest way to improve how creative industries work for both creators and fans,”

More than just NFTs

With the value of even topline music NFTs falling, virtually every startup pitch has shifted from NFTs to blockchain and Web3. But Highlight actually seems to take that broader mission seriously, and the origin of its founders suggests that helping artists make money will always be front and center.

Founded by former staffers at payment sollutions provide Square, Highlight alllows creators to establish gated communities centered on Web 3.0 assets including NFTs and other goods on the blockchain along with support for digital live events.

Users can also create, mint, and distribute NFTs online on other marketplaces like OpenSea.

Highlight uses the Polygon network and studio for all token and NFT operations, allowing it to reduce friction by not having minting or transaction fees.

We’ll be writing more about why more and more music web3 projects seem to be gravitating to Polygon in the coming days.
