Best Fern’s Nick Schofield on the creative process and benefits of limitations

An accomplished musician talks about the creative process and the benefits of utilizing creative limitations in the writing and production process,

by Soundfly Team of SoundFly

We’re proud to present Jeremy’s recent interview with Nick Schofield (of Best Fern). In it they chat about the band’s new album, Earth Then Air, the benefits of utilizing creative limitations in the writing and production process, and making electronic music using acoustic instruments while in residence at Banff.

And Nick is particularly suited for such a conversation — he’s been involved with tons of projects from electronic jazz to indie pop and ambient music and everything in between. He’s had to adapt and utilize a variety of creative approaches to making music in different settings and as a result, he’s formed a foundation of consistency in his work that’s truly inspiring!

“The Creative Process” is Soundfly’s conversation series with working artists and music industry insiders which touches on advice and strategies for the modern musician culled from our guests’ experiences and successes throughout their careers.

These Q&As are initially broadcast on Crowdcast with a private Soundfly subscriber-only audience, and feature questions partially generated from our community on Discord, before being published here.

  1. I’m making a decent compensation from home $64k/week , which was astonishing under a year prior I was jobless in a horrendous economy. I was honored with these guidelines and presently it’s my obligation to show kindness and share it with Everyone
