The David Bowie Estate is launching “Bowie on the Blockchain,” NFTs created by multiple artists, including FEWOCiOUS, JAKE, and Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot. The sale on OpenSea starts on 9/13.

The Estate’s proceeds go to CARE, the humanitarian nonprofit for which Bowie’s widow Iman is a global advocate.

“The idea that the artists of today, utilizing the latest technology, were influenced even in the least by David would have made him as proud as anything he would have created on his own,” Bill Zysblat, Bowie’s longtime business manager, said in a statement. “And anyone who knew him knows he would have been one of the first adopters of Web 3.0.”

NFTs help Muse Tops UK Charts

The NFT or “digital pressing” version of Muse’s new album is 2% of 51,500 in total first week sales in the UK, but it’s still a first that paves the way for others.

The UK added NFT sales to its chart calculations and couple of months ago, but US charts have yet to follow suit.

“It’s a new way to experience music that unites artists and fans through a collectible format,” wrote distributor Serenade.

NFT albums often add exclusive perks, including:

  • Hi-rez FLAC audio files
  • Limited edition album art
  • Inclusion in a fan club or community
  • Unlockable rewards like ticket pre-sales and merch discounts

NFT Sales On OpenSea Fall 99%

Trading on the top NFT marketplace, OpenSea, has fallen 99% since May.

Public Pressure Launches Green Web3 Platform

Public Pressure launched in 2015 as an online community and magazine dedicated to giving a voice to emerging artists and labels. Now the company has added an eco-friendly NFT platform designed to empower the artist/fan relationship while creating new revenue streams for creators.

Public Pressure also announced a high-profile advisory board including Patrick Moxey, founder of Ultra Music, Payday Records and the newly created Helix Records; DJ manager and music publisher Paul Sears, who is responsible for the success of Benny Benassi among others; and music business veteran Charlie Rapino, currently VP of Artist First, the biggest independent label in Italy.

“Less than 20% of total music revenues goes to artists, including from on-demand streams, CD sales, radio play, live events, advertising, that have risen to about $43 billion a year,” said Public Pressure Co-Founder and President, Sergio Mottola. “Of that, artists only take home $5 billion, or less than 20%. We believe the Web3 landscape is today very enticing for any artist to enter. If we ignore the unrealistic price tags some sales are making; we are left with a very compelling distribution format, which will allow musicians to capture more value.”
