On Wednesday, **[Instagram](http://instagram.com/?ref=hypebot.com)** announced it's user base has expanded to **over 300 million monthly active users**, trumping **[Twitter](http://twitter.com/?ref=hypebot.com)'s 284 million** by a solid 16 million users. Instagram has experienced a significant uptick in growth since [Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/)'s $1 billion dollar acquisition of the photo sharing platform in April 2012\. The chart generated by [BI Intelligence](https://intelligence.businessinsider.com/?ref=hypebot.com) (shown below) better illustrates the expansion of Instagram and the differentiation between their growth rate and Twitter's. **Twitter is projected to hit 296 million** users by the end of Q4, but that still leaves them in the back seat to **Instagram's already established 300 million.**
