# iOS Music Community Rebrands As Apptronica, Launches Netlabel and Digital Magazine

Back in April Clif Johnston launched the iOS Music Community to connect musicians and app developers focused on making music with the iPad, iPhone and/or iPod. Now he's taking things a step further by rebranding as Apptronica, launching a new site and adding both a netlabel, to release iOS recordings, and a digital magazine that should be on the iTunes newsstand any day now. So far it seems to be a rather small endeavor but it's an excellent example of creating a community to raise the profile of a unique musical niche.

[Clif Johnston](http://www.linkedin.com/in/clifjohnston?ref=hypebot.com) aka Mood481 seems pretty serious about making iOS music creation a bigger thing or, at least, bringing together those that are serious about it. Johnston began that process with the [iOS Music Community](http://iosmusic.org/?ref=hypebot.com) featuring community discussion, news and information plus a [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/groups/ios-music-community?ref=hypebot.com) account with music from community members.

**Building On A Community Base**

Now Johnston's expanding that with the launch of [Apptronica](http://apptronica.us/?ref=hypebot.com) which adds a netlabel and digital magazine to the community base.

The [magazine](http://apptronica.us/magazine/?ref=hypebot.com) will feature a full range of articles and information for iOS music makers. It's expected on the [iTunes newsstand](https://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios-newsstand/id6021?ref=hypebot.com) sometime this week.

Apptronica's [netlabel](http://apptronica.us/netlabel/?ref=hypebot.com) is already in action with at least two [releases](http://apptronica.us/portfolio/?ref=hypebot.com) and more on the way.

They've even got a [manifesto](http://apptronica.us/netlabel/manifesto/?ref=hypebot.com) which is a nice touch.

**Get Involved**

In addition to simply joining the [community](http://apptronica.us/members/?ref=hypebot.com) you have until November 26 to submit music for an [iOS Holiday Compilation](http://apptronica.us/apptronica-is-seeking-submissions-for-an-ios-holiday-compilation/?ref=hypebot.com).

And if you feel like helping out behind the scenes, the founder and his wife are facing some [serious financial and health issues](https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/6dysb?fb%5Faction%5Fids=10152072824259742&fb%5Faction%5Ftypes=fundrazr%253Astory%5Fupdate&fb%5Fref=og%5F%5F52HSJ9&fb%5Fsource=aggregation&fb%5Faggregation%5Fid=288381481237582&ref=hypebot.com) and are running a FundRazr campaign. Though I didn't see any signs of the campaign at Apptronica, obviously the founder's situation will affect the project.
