Now, [David Lowery](https://thetrichordist.com/2016/05/26/songwriter-would-need-288-million-spins-to-equal-average-spotify-employee-salary/?ref=hypebot.com) has calculated that, using a generally accepted estimated rate of $0.00058 per spin, which includes both the public performance (BMI/ASCAP) and streaming mechanical payment, then a songwriter would need 288,104,634.15 spins to earn the average annual salary of a single Spotify employee.

And that's assuming that the songwriter has retained all publishing rights to the song.
