ONE, an organization focused on ending extreme poverty worldwide, today launched agit8, a section of their site devoted to [protest songs](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protest%5Fsong?ref=hypebot.com). The songs go beyond extreme poverty to bring together multiple issues. In addition, the site sets the stage for the agit8 campaign designed to pressure world leaders to address poverty issues at the upcoming [G8 Summit](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G8?ref=hypebot.com).

Creative initiatives to force world leaders to follow through on their promises to address extreme poverty seem to be the order of the day. Recently I wrote about the [Global Poverty Project](http://www.globalpovertyproject.com/?ref=hypebot.com)'s [Global Citizen Ticket Initiative](https://www.hypebot.com/from-bruce-springsteen-to-beyonce-artists-donate-tickets-to-fight-poverty-with-global-citizen/) which uses donated tickets to encourage involvement in related campaigns. Today marks the launch of agit8 from [ONE](http://www.one.org/?ref=hypebot.com) that takes a different approach to enlisting music in the fight against poverty.

**ONE presents agit8: The Power of Protest Songs**

Designed by the folks at [F#](http://www.efsharp.com/?ref=hypebot.com), [agit8](http://www.one.org/protestsongs/?ref=hypebot.com) has a nice looking comtemporary site with a variety of features at launch including:

Music videos of protest songs

Spotify playlists of protest songs including Celebrity Playlists curated by [Tom Morello](http://www.last.fm/music/Tom%2BMorello?ref=hypebot.com "Tom Morello"), [Pharrell Williams](http://pharrellwilliams.com/?ref=hypebot.com "Pharrell Williams") and [Angelique Kidjo](http://www.kidjo.com/?ref=hypebot.com "Angélique Kidjo")

The site has launched in preparation for the upcoming [G8 Summit](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/39th%5FG8%5Fsummit?ref=hypebot.com) being held at [Northern Ireland](http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=54.5909333333,-5.84&spn=10.0,10.0&q=54.5909333333,-5.84%20%28Northern%20Ireland%29&t=h&ref=hypebot.com)'s [Lough Erne](http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=54.4666666667,-7.81666666667&spn=0.1,0.1&q=54.4666666667,-7.81666666667%20%28Lough%20Erne%29&t=h&ref=hypebot.com) resort later this month. It's going to be a tense setting with "[much of Northern Ireland…expected to go into lockdown](http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/g8-summit/police-were-ready-for-g8-29328315.html?ref=hypebot.com)."

The [launch of the site](http://www.one.org/us/2013/06/11/welcome-to-agit8-change-the-world-through-the-power-of-protest-song/?ref=hypebot.com) is both prelude to a campaign related to the G8 Summit and an ongoing project of its own.

If you're interested in finding out more about the yet-to-be-described agit8 campaign for the G8, I'd suggest [signing up for agit8](http://www.one.org/protestsongs/?ref=hypebot.com) and keeping an eye on the site.
