When [Universal](http://www.universalstudios.com/?ref=hypebot.com) first unveiled their intent to use retroactive [product placement](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product%5Fplacement?ref=hypebot.com) throughout their [YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/?ref=hypebot.com) catalog, the idea wasn't exactly welcomes with open arms. Since the announcement, the inserting of new ads in old videos has taken place and really isn't as bad as initially projected. In a recent interview with *[Rolling Stone](http://www.rollingstone.com/?ref=hypebot.com)*, Ted Micco of [Mirriad](http://www.mirriad.com/?ref=hypebot.com) speaks to the technology that allows for the doing away or pre-video [advertisements](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertising?ref=hypebot.com).

  
“It works in exactly the same way as you would plan a [media campaign](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass%5Fmedia?ref=hypebot.com) for a brand around [music videos](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music%5Fvideo?ref=hypebot.com). But instead of running pre-roll, now you’d buy spots inside the video." Micco continued, “We’re in the business of helping creatives make money out of the things they’ve already made. Technology is allowing people to skip ads in all formats.”

The same story in *Rolling Stone* quotes [Avicii](http://www.avicii.com/?ref=hypebot.com)’s manager Ash Pournouri as praising the partnership between Universal and Mirriad for the creation and facilitation of an additional revenue stream.
