The Orchard is merging with IODA and Sony Music is making a major investment in the new company, according to several reports. Sources tell Hypebot that talks began with The Orchard hoping to purchase IODA, which Sony owns a major stake in. Dimensional Associates, the private equity arm of JDS Capital Management and owners of The Orchard, had reportedly hoped to roll up several distributors including The Orchard, The Orchard and IRIS into a digital music powerhouse. But Sony had other plans.

Sony Music will own 50% or more of the merged company, according to [Billboard](http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/digital-and-mobile/orchard-ioda-merging-sony-music-to-invest-1006370152.story?ref=hypebot.com).Their sources suggest that Sony may purchase the rest of Dimensional share in the future. The combined distribution company will have revenues of approximately $130 million.

The merger comes just days after digital music distributor [INgrooves acquired](https://www.hypebot.com/ingrooves-buys-fontana-distribution-from-universal/) physical music distributor Fontana from Universal Music Group. Expect more mergers and acquistions in the broader music tech sector in the coming months.
