Spotify has cancelled plans to launch in Russia. according to the company's top executive there. "I regret to say that Spotify has refused to start business in Russia in the nearest future. There are several reasons for that: the economic recession, the political situation, new laws governing the internet," he said in a statement.

"My last official working day is February, 12\. Speaking for myself, I can only confirm the fact that indeed, there will be no start-up in the nearest future," [said](http://itar-tass.com/en/economy/774807?ref=hypebot.com) former Google exec Alexander Kubaneishvili, who had been tapped to launch the music streamer in Russia.
