TODAY’S HYPEBOT FEATURES:

[NIN Launch Stumbles](http://hypebot.typepad.com/hypebot/2008/03/nine-inch-nai-1.html?ref=hypebot.com), [7Digital Grabs WMG MP3’s For EU](http://hypebot.typepad.com/hypebot/2008/03/7digital-grabs.html?ref=hypebot.com), [TuneCore Delivers NIN & Other A-List Artists](http://hypebot.typepad.com/hypebot/2008/03/tunecore-delive.html?ref=hypebot.com), [A DanceTracks Alum Joins Amazin MP3](http://hypebot.typepad.com/hypebot/2008/03/dancetracks-alu.html?ref=hypebot.com). [EMI Adds Catalog & Licensing VP’s plus A Commentary](http://hypebot.typepad.com/hypebot/2008/03/emi-adds-catalo.html?ref=hypebot.com)

\> **Wal-Mart is demanding multi-tier pricing** from record labels. According to [Billboard](http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080302/media%5Fnm/walmart%5Fdc?ref=hypebot.com) the proposal would "allow for a promotional program that could comprise the top 15 to 20 hottest titles, each at $10\. The rest of the pricing structure…would have hits and current titles retailing for $12, top catalog at $9, midline catalog at $7 and budget product at $5\. The move would also shift the store’s pricing from its $9.88 and $13.88 model to rounder sales prices." *Hasn’t Amazon been pushing this concept for some time now? If their #1 and #2 retailer partners demand it; can labels resist?*

\> In two press releases **Qtrax announced a new [deal with Sony/ATV](http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/sonyatv-music-publishing-signs-qtrax-digital-license-contract,300559.shtml?ref=hypebot.com) Publishing** and **renewed a [deal with EMI Publishing](http://www.sunherald.com/447/story/408444.html?ref=hypebot.com)**. A few days ago a deal with bankrupt **TVT** was also announced. *All are important milestones for a struggling QTrax but still far from the promised all major labels launch.*

\> **No surprises**: **Universal’s 2007 earnings slipped** due to lower CD sales and a weaker currency. ([Vivendi Universal Financial Report](http://www.vivendi.com/corp/en/press%5F2008/documents/20080229%5FPR%5Fannual%5Fearnings%5F2007.pdf?ref=hypebot.com))

\> **Nokia** has opened an **online music store** in Germany. ([Reuters](http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080304/wr%5Fnm/nokia%5Fmusic%5Fgermany%5Fdc?ref=hypebot.com))

\> A
[pdf](http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths%5Fblog/files/musicbusinesslive.pdf?ref=hypebot.com) of a talk that **marketing guru Seth Godin** gave **on the music industry**. Not the definitive work, but worthy of your time.
