Fan engagement
strategies and approaches tend to differ from artist to artist. For some, it
makes more sense to constantly communicate with fans and involve them in every
part of your story. Others prefer the behind-the-scenes and mysterious approach to their artistry, where 'less-is-more' generally applies. But if
you’re one of those bands or artists that prefers open communication with your fans,
like the UK rock band **[The Script](http://www.thescriptmusic.com/us/home?ref=hypebot.com)**,
the [VYou](http://vyou.com/?ref=hypebot.com) video Q&A platform is a fun and easy way to keep fans engaged while adding
a much-welcomed **personal touch of face-to-face video**.

**[VYou](http://vyou.com/?ref=hypebot.com)** essentially combines
the functionality of **YouTube**, **Twitter**, and lesser-known **FormSpring** (where people ask
original questions in anticipation of entertaining and/or informative
responses). It allows people to broadcast their videos structured as
conversations, offering a more personalized form of social interaction. Bands
can record video responses to messages entered by fans, and then VYou organizes
their messages and the responsorial videos into conversations, making the
experience feel continuously live even though the content is stored (check out our first look of VYou [here](https://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2011/09/vyou-provides-personalized-video-qa-platform-.html)).

Irish rock band The Script recently used VYou to keep a conversation going with
their fans while on tour.

Their
“Ask the Script” campaign received close to 500 questions from fans, ranging
from “What’s your favorite part about being on tour”, to “What is the scariest
thing you’ve ever done”, to “What do you like to do to relax”. The band then
answered 22 responses in just 25 minutes and accumulated **40,000 video views**
**over one weekend**.

The band didn't even need to be sitting in front of a computer to facilitate the responses. Some of the video answers were done using a camera phone either backstage, on the bus, or out and about in public and then uploaded to the platform.

The band then turned it around and asked their fans “Who is in your Hall of Fame?”
– which is a play on words to the lead single title to their new studio album – and
received over 140 video responses from fans.

“\[VYou\] is a
perfect tool for when we're on the road, on the tour bus,” the band told
Hypebot. “With the new album, it’s all about content, content, content and this
is instant and very personal – they know it’s you sitting there."

Granted, not every video response is going to be of high scale interview quality in terms of production or depth of answers, but the real driver of this is initative is constant content, contact and, above all, context. The band has a fan base that clearly wants in on the action, and the brand behind the band is appropriate enough to where they can let them in and it will all make sense. **Content may be king, but context is queen** – and what better context can a fan ask for than in the tour bus, the studio, or backstage with their favorite band?
