On October 2, [**ENHYPEN's**](https://www.bandsintown.com/a/15485270-enhypen?utm%5Fsource=hypebot&came%5Ffrom=900) latest VR concert began its Japanese cinema run, with seven cities on the schedule. Fans put on headsets to enter [*ENHYPEN VR CONCERT: DESTINY*](https://www.amazevrconcerts.com/enhypen/?ref=hypebot.com), an immersive performance and fantasy narrative in which choosing a member changes parts of the experience.

[HYBE Japan’s announcement](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000742.000045862.html?ref=hypebot.com) outlines international screenings and an expanded slate of VR concerts continuing in 2026\. If you thought [virtual concerts](https://www.hypebot.com/tag/virtual-concert/) had quietly disappeared, that's a tour itinerary suggesting otherwise.

But after all the hullaballoo a few years back signalling that VR concerts were the wave of the future, why does it feel like they've taken a back seat in public visibility?

There’s no shortage of activity. But look closely at recent examples and the category starts breaking into separate businesses: **ticketed VR screenings,** **performances inside video games, online UGC festivals,** and **digital extensions of physical events**.

Each offers a different answer to what (and who) a virtual concert is actually *for.* Maybe that makes them harder to discuss as one big industry revolution. It also makes them easier to assess on their own terms.

## **The audience has not disappeared**

Earlier this year, [**Bruno Mars**](https://www.bandsintown.com/a/279327-bruno-mars?utm%5Fsource=hypebot&came%5Ffrom=900) appeared as an avatar inside Roblox’s *Steal a Brainrot*, performing “I Just Might” and “Locked Out of Heaven.” **Guinness World Records** [verified 12,862,161 concurrent viewers](https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/commercial/2026/2/bruno-mars-hosts-largest-concert-in-a-videogame-during-steal-a-brainrot-on-roblox?ref=hypebot.com) for the January 17 event, awarding it the record for the largest music concert in a videogame by a single artist.

That is an enormous audience. It is also a two-song appearance inside an existing game, which makes it a very different proposition from persuading fans to buy tickets for a full virtual tour. The distribution lesson is compelling: an artist can go where people already spend time together. The economics of a conventional concert don’t automatically follow.

Poland’s [Virtual Vibes](https://groupone.prowly.com/472049-juz-jutro-startuje-festiwal-virtual-vibes-w-grze-roblox-w-line-upie-eryk-moczko-zippy-ogar-i-palion?ref=hypebot.com) offers another model. Its fourth edition opened on Roblox September 23, with additional concerts scheduled through October 14 and a lineup including **Eryk Moczko, Zippy Ogar** and **Palion.** Attendance is free, and the organizers advertise Polish Sign Language interpretation.

A fourth edition is a useful detail. It suggests a format organizers are willing to repeat beyond an experimental first try, and beyond the novelty of putting one global superstar on a digital stage.

## **Virtual Can Lead Back to the Physical World**

Singapore’s alternative music festival **Baybeats** took a different approach with [**Beatsverse**](https://lbbonline.com/news/Roblox-Beatsverse-Extends-Singapores-Alternative-Music-Festival-to-the-Virtual-World?edition=asia&ref=hypebot.com), a Roblox world launched August 4 featuring music from more than 20 Singapore artists. Activities at September’s physical festival let players unlock additional in-game features and rewards.

A virtual space that helps promote and incentivize participation in the physical world is something that begs to be explored further, in any number of creative applications. The potential value prop here includes discovering bands, recognizing their music and becoming curious about the festival scene they inhabit.

Whether that curiosity produces ticket sales or lasting fandom is the next question. And [Live Nation and Livewire’s **Music Festival Tycoon**](https://news.livenationentertainment.com/news/live-nation-and-livewire-bring-music-festival-tycoon-to-roblox?ref=hypebot.com), announced in July, may indicate the answer.

MFT similarly connects gaming with [festival culture](https://www.hypebot.com/tag/festivals/). Players build festivals, while [**Lollapalooza**](https://www.hypebot.com/tag/lollapalooza/) appears as its first real-world festival integration. This is an adjacent development rather than a virtual tour, but it shows how the same platforms can serve several purposes: entertainment, artist promotion, and engagement between live events.

ENHYPEN’s cinema dates bring the discussion back to a ticketed product, too. Here, the immersive recording travels while fans gather in physical venues ([cinemas](https://www.hypebot.com/why-are-serious-filmmakers-turning-to-concerts/), notably, *not* live music spaces). That is a concrete distribution model, even if it looks different from the idea of attending a concert from your bedroom.

For independent artists and their teams, these distinctions matter more than the umbrella term “metaverse.” Who is the audience? What are they paying for? What relationship survives when the experience ends?

Virtual concerts still deserve attention. The next useful stories will ask what artists earn, why fans return and which experiences justify their production costs. A crowd of millions makes a headline. A repeatable business would give us a reason to keep covering it.
