  1. More like DI With the help of Lil Wayne and seven years of TV acting experience prior to music…
Drake played the role of Jimmy Brooks, a character on Degrassi: The Next Generation, from 2001-2009…
He also just signed to Lil Wayne’s label which goes through Uni Republic

  2. Drake is going to keep 100% of everything the stores pay for that astounding success. That’s what makes me so happy–for ONCE, someone had the choice to go independent and take it any way they want.

  3. I’ve read so many “Internet success” stories and when you dig deeper, you find there was a manager, or a publicist, or a label from the beginning. Or someone’s parent was already in the music business. And so on.
I don’t mind that it happens that way, but I wish the PR for these examples would be more honest so that unsigned bands, just starting out, aren’t given unrealistic expectations.
Yes, I would say that if you already have an established TV acting career, you’re not the typical DIY artist. You’ve got a fanbase and recognition. And having help from someone like Lil Wayne is as good as having had major label promotion.

  4. I agree. He’s made $200,000 in two weeks, but how much was spent and over what period of time?
I’m curious because I want to know what it takes!
