I’ve read so many “Internet success” stories and when you dig deeper, you find there was a manager, or a publicist, or a label from the beginning. Or someone’s parent was already in the music business. And so on. I don’t mind that it happens that way, but I wish the PR for these examples would be more honest so that unsigned bands, just starting out, aren’t given unrealistic expectations. Yes, I would say that if you already have an established TV acting career, you’re not the typical DIY artist. You’ve got a fanbase and recognition. And having help from someone like Lil Wayne is as good as having had major label promotion.
