Music With A Message, Rapping About Milk & Cattle
Yeo Valley milk intertwines rap and advertising to raise awareeness.
It's not that often that you hear music with a message. Even though this is clearly an advert, it has resonated with people, scoring over one million views on YouTube. It's a song about milk and ethical treatment for cattle. Some contend that it might score a number one hit by Christmas. It's an odd time we live in, at the juncture of many complex and multifaceted world problems music doesn't touch on them. Maybe it never did.
Watch the video below:
Art serves that purpose though. It breaks complexity down into smaller parts and interjects meaning into the void. We're in a place in the music market where attention is solely placed on making the least offensive and readily consumable possible. Music with a message is a powerful thing. What's missing from songs today is meaning, the conviction and the desire to fight for something worth believing in. Artists are afraid of getting Dixie Chicked. Sadly, the demand for such music might be less than expected, and if it exists, the public won't hear it.
