HOW TO: Create A Targeted, Cute Viral Music Video

image from laughingsquid.com Marketing music is never easy. It's a constant challenge. Do you try and reach a new fans or do you create something your fans are sure to love, hoping it will spread? Who are you targeting?

In this case, cat lovers. That's who.

The Los Angeles indie trio band Best Coast has created a charming music video that gives a nod to people that love cats.

And it's not viral in the sense that something crazy happens in the video. It's viral in the sense that people who love cats will think it's cute regardless and pass it onto their friends who also love cats. Best Coast may not have had this diabolical plan in mind when they made their video, but that's exactly what will happen.

And do you know who they struck a deal with to premier the video exclusively?

ICanHasCheezburger.com. (The famed online community of cute cat pictures and funny text.) The lolcaters loved it. There's even a related contest where the community is asked to caption a picture of Snacks, a kitten owned by Bethany Cosentino, the leader singer of Best Coast. After all this time, musicians are starting to get this Internet marketing thing down. Cat lovers like music too.

And there's lots of them. Take a look:
