Parental Warnings Coming To Online Music

image from static.guim.co.uk Parental warning notices are being added to digital music sites in Britain; and the U.S. is almost certain to follow. Consumers are used to seeing warnings on CD's, but online they are far less common. iTunes uses them, but YouTube, VEVO, Amazon and most others have less rigid policies. Now UK music industry group BPI is updating its 15-year-old Parental Advisory system "to "bring up to date what happens on the high street (a London street known for music shops) to the digital age".

Soon YouTube, Spotify and others will be forced to add the warning.

"We think it is important for parents to get the same standards of guidance and information online as they get when buying CDs or DVDs on the high street," Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI told The Gaurdian. "We are updating our… scheme for the digital age to ensure that explicit songs and videos are clearly labelled."
