Introduce Yourself To The Hypebot Community: Join Our Free Online Networking Event Now!

image from www.google.com (UPDATED) The Labor Day holiday is about honoring the working men and women of America; and particularly in the new music industry, few work harder than musicians and those of  who serve them. So it seems a fitting weekend to continue a Hypebot tradition to host another online networking party.

Many of Hypebot readers use the down time to work on exciting projects; while others are just looking for a constructive solution to the pre-holiday work day blahs. Either way, get involved. Shameless plugs are allowed:

In the comments section below, tell us a little about yourself, what you're working on and what excites you (PG-13 only).  Include links that you think might be of interest to others and I suggest adding your name and email or some way that other Hypebot readers interested in collaborating can find you.

  1. My name is Sam and I play every instrument and mix and record in my music project called The Honesty Policy. I have an 8 song EP up for free at http://thehonestypolicy.bandcamp.com . I do weekly (aka when I feel like it, haha) cover videos at http://youtube.com/thprocks, and I have a facebook page at http://facebook.com/thprocks.
This sounds a lot more pretentious than I am, but I’m trying to get to the point and not drone on. I’ve played drums most of my life in one band mostly, so I’m not used to being the center of attention yet. So right now my mission is to find out how far I can take my music without playing live shows.
If you’re into good rock n roll you might want to download my free EP. Right now I’m working on writing more songs–trying to write songs that tell stories a la Bruce, tom petty, stuff like that. I’ve always liked those kinds of songs and I don’t see them around much any more so I’d like to start writing them and see what I come up with.
That’s about it. I’m down for collaborations and connecting especially if you’re in the philly/pa area so get in touch!
Props to hypebot btw for cataloging the digital music revolution as it happens.

I would to offer you a free download of a song I call “Distorted Reality” Navigate to http://www.artistconnect.mobi and the code is JT001

  3. Hi All – Bruce :),
My name is Armine and i’m the founder of viinyl – a music platform that turns any song into a digital version of the 45rpm single – dedicated to showcasing and promoting a ‘single’ all over the web and social networks.
Think of viinyl as the the music-lover’s digital LP. It conjures the spirit of how music was enjoyed in the days when you had the lyrics, artwork and felt the vibe of the artist at your fingertips.
Here are some examples for your viweing & listening pleasures:
    http://idareyou.viinyl.com, http://sweetirene.viinyl.com/, http://alreadyyours.viinyl.com/
It only takes minutes to make a viinyl & each site comes with lyrics, artwork, videos, a variety of download options, and much more…
We also have a very tight integration with SoundCloud – where in under 30 secs you can create a viinyl song site with your SoundLcoud content.
I invite you all to give viinyl a spin: http://www.viinyl.com
    Have a great w/end.

  5. Hi folks ! My name is Greg Brent and I have a Music Marketing and Events business called Music Powered Strategies located in Austin, TX. I have released 2 singles this year, both which can be heard and viewed on You Tube using these links..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLnf7cBYAMA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgYJ1aUwbWA&feature=related

  8. Hello all! I’m Matt.
I live in Chicago and just founded GigFunder (http://gigfunder.com). We are the first crowd-funded touring site, allowing artists to post tours and fans to pledge money to bring their favorite artists out to their cities. The hope is that fans can encourage artists to visit smaller towns that rarely get good shows and that artists can get on the road without all the upfront financial risk.
We’re launching soon. You can sign up for an invite to the launch on our homepage: http://gigfunder.com
And you can follow us on Twitter @GigFunder
Thanks guys! Interested in seeing what everyone else is up to. Have a great weekend!

  20. Arkade.com was founded by Stephen Miller and Greg Walsh.
Arkade.com is a professional solution for serious Artists who want to retain complete control of their web presence and global digital distribution – at an affordable price.
We built this platform because the first thing a potential manager (& promoter, label, etc) will do when considering an Artist is to check them out online; so a first class web presence is essential.
Arkade provides Artist branded websites with the features that Labels, Managers & Promoters need to see when considering new Artists.
    Check out the ArkadeBlog

  22. Hi Dj151, you should try http://www.viinyl.com to distribute your DJ sets. Instead of directing people to a site like mediafire – you could send them to a page that is branded to you, that you control in order to enhance the experience around your music.

  27. Hi All, Bruce 🙂
I’m Sagee, and I’m the founder of Serendip (http://serendip.me), a social music discovery platform that connects people around music, and provides a great music experience based on other users you select as your “social music editors”.
We not only turn your social feed (now Twitter, Facebook coming up…) into a playlist, but also match you with people who share your musical taste, people you don’t even know… yet, and allow you to “listen” to the music they’re sharing.
This way we harvest the power of the social networks, as well as popular open streaming services such as YouTube, SoundCloud and BandCamp, to provide a great playlist tailored for anyone.
We are currently still in private alpha, but ever since TheNextWeb has broken the story and gave us a great review (http://thenextweb.com/apps/2011/08/25/serendip-twitter-music-integration-done-right/), we’ve decided to open up the service a bit, and I can’t find a better place to do so than HypeBot.
So whether you’re a musician looking to sharing your music with music lovers worldwide, or someone who loves music and wants to listen to great music provided by people that share your taste, you’re invited to join our service.
Here’s an invite code that will get you in: http://serendip.me/application/login?code=HypeBot. Great music is already waiting!
    Rock On,
    Sagee

  28. Hey Hypebot and readers!
My name is Mike and I’m a music / ent professional. I have a company of my own called “The Annex Group”. I’ve done a lot of the last ten years… Management, development, brand & image developement, marketing & business strategist for indie and major artists, music supervisor & coordinator, writer, producer & engineer, artist relations specialist (connected to many major artists, management companies & labels), and serial entrepreneur 🙂
Most recently I’ve begun to develop a new TV pilot, animated short, and online magazine dealing with entertainment media & lifestyle.
I’m looking to network of course and perhaps gain some new freelance work. Economy has forced me to seek either part time or freelance work. However I may even join up a solid organization that I may put my years of expertise to good use with.

  29. Hello all,
Katie O’Halloran here. I’m a former Music Business student at the Berklee College of Music, around which time I began scouting for various A&R consultancy firms and working with Artists House Music (http://www.artistshousemusic.org/) as a regular contributor to its blog.
Presently, I’m interning at EMI Music Publishing Canada as I finish off my B.G.S. in Business Administration.
After watching other sites cover unsigned artists I had been following *long* in advance, it seemed like a waste to keep letting that happen when I could be providing much earlier coverage (or covering artists they completely overlook). So, I launched I Think I Love It (http://ithinkiloveit.com/), which is essentially an A&R tip site meets a fan-oriented music blog.
We’re always looking for promising unsigned artists, songwriters, and producers to feature, so if you have any tips, we’d love to hear them! Contact us here: http://ithinkiloveit.com/contact/

  32. I’m an Entertainment Business major at Full Sail University. I have a deep passion for the music industry. Since I can’t sing or play an instrument I find satisfaction in making others dreams come true. I love how the connection between an artist and their fans can be so strong. Someday I hope to help build those relationships and spread music to new people.
I did some work for a company called Sixthman based out of Atlanta. They produce amazing concert cruises where fans experience a music festival with their favorite bands out at sea. I was hired as a production assistant on the Barenaked Ladies’ Ships and Dip Cruise and the 311 Caribbean Cruise.
I love talking about music and connecting with others in the industry. Hopefully more opportunities arise in the future.

  37. Hello!
I’m Katie Miller, a sophomore Music Business major with a double minor in Computer Information Systems and Legal Studies. I’m a firm believer that licensing is the bigest issue in the industry right now and licensing and contracts are my major focus but I really enjoy tech.

  38. Hi All,
I’m actually not in the music industry at all! I work for a dating site. Quite randomly, I’m looking for a way to get metrics on the popularity of a given artist or, even better, song. Something that combines YouTube views, record sales and, ideally, has a geographic breakdown. This would be amazing.
It was looking like BandMetrics.com might be a good place to start- but it’s down since being acquired.
This all has to do with trying to measure the return-on-investment with product placements in music videos. Like the recent LMFAO / KIA collaboration.
Any pointers from you expert-types are appreciated. You can always find me on Twitter @AlexShapiroPR

  39. Hey there,
My name is David. I am an artist/entrepreneur in Los Angeles. I started a company called Mugoto. We currently book bands and promote events through our website http://www.Mugoto.com. All of our gigs are either paid, or there is an opportunity to make money. We currently book Molly Malones and a few other venues. We are about to team up with http://www.ArtistHead.com to start booking national acts around town that Mugoto users will have to chance to open for. It is my goal to reconnect the DIY community and build a group of artists/musicians and other culture inspiring people to support and help each other grow.

  40. I’m liking that folks are responding to one another’s introductions here. My name is Anne Leighton. I wear a few different hats as a writer, publicist, music manager, consultant….
My roster includes a lot of classic rockers as well as some independent acts who I work with in different capacities: Joe Deninzon/Stratospheerius, Deni Bonet, KJ Denhert, and Jann Klose.
I get e-mailed a lot to help this band and that band, and can’t really commit to that because I need to do my own thing. But over the past few weeks I’ve been studying a real cowboy country western singer named Lonnie Hill and would like to find folks in the traditional country scene to help him. His site is http://www.lonniehill.net/
I’m putting that need out there because I don’t have time to commit and fully work him the way he should be developed–getting his songs out there, promoting his gigs which cover one region between Nashville and Kansas. So if you have suggestions, drop me a note or write to Lonnie care of his site.

  44. Hi everyone, I am Melanie and I am demented. I try to make my way in Sweden running my own label and let me tell you- in no other country is it more evident that music today is not about talent -music today is who has the sufficient energy to fill out forms and excel-sheets. I have a new album coming up in a couple of weeks however I am already on most sales platforms. I spend my days studying the metaphysical workings around the business and I suspect it has driven me batshit insane. Big up to Hypebot and its readers, no other newsletter is more substantial. And remember: Spotify is a swedish invention!

The album is available at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/off-the-rails/id445479957. You can find more out about Kyle on Facebook at the page KyleWoodRocksTheMandolin. :)Steve Sikes-Nova, Tuxedo Cat Entertainment, Gloucester VA

  50. Hey guys! I own/operate a promotions company called Revitalize The Scene. I started the business in March of 2010 and had my first promotion in June of 2010. I make compilation discs and distribute them at concerts and festivals. I started with making 50 per week and now I have some promotions that are as high as 2,000 Discs. I’ve been able to secure signed bands to be apart of my promotions as well and have been able to sponsor some tours. Most promotions are based in the New England area but I’m expanding very soon and even looking to bring in a few people to help. I also manage 2 up and coming bands by the name of Kanerko and Birch Hill Dam.

  56. Hi everyone. Hypebot is simply awesome.
I’m Tim Young a singer/songwriter and performer based in Hell’s Kitchen NYC. I play in all the dive bars around here. A lot of free beer.
I’m putting together my latest batch of tunes for a new CD. My most recent release is The Cost and before that Red. I’ve been putting my stuff out on my own label Not Fade Away. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t hook up with a bigger indie label. I have a ton of original songs.
I like to put out a lot of energy. I’m always looking to expand my horizons and ideas. I would definitely dig doing work in marketing and publicity for other bands too. I’m a bartender by trade but I am so over that.
Please check out my site at http://timrocksweb.com/
I would also recommend a video of my tune ‘Renegade’ over at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJptqffHYdo
And if you’re in NYC this Labor Day week I will be performing at Sanctuary bar 10pm on Wednesday Sept. 7th. 316 W. 39th St.
No cover or anything like that. Come join me in the celebration of Hell’s Kitchen Rock!
Thanks to all the wonderful people I’ve met right here.
    Best of Luck to us.

  57. That Glass is Half-Full, Mister.
They say I’m too old to put out an album.
    They say I’m too fat.
    They say I’m too broke.
And you know what? They’re right. I am all that–which is why I decided to do my music my way. I found the right producer–12-time platinum-selling Tommy Faragher, for all you “Glee” fans out there–and I came up with the right plan.
Song by song, I financed my debut album, “Night Flight to London” and now the entire album is spinning on British Airways in-flight entertainment until 2012.
Songs are starting to spin on UK radio.
The album drops globally in October. You can pre-order on iTunes.
    And it feels so right.

  63. hey all,
i’m fredara & i’m an ethnomusicologist. my dissertation was on the indie soul music scene in atlanta, georgia. i do freelance journalism and such, but like many of you i’m obsessed with future trends in the music industry and specifically interested in the idea of “middle class” musicians. i’m looking at how aspiring musicians build sustainable careers for themselves without the major media machines. on top of that i’m work a lot with african american musicians and audience because their consumption patters and motives of black alternative music scenes seem to be different than that of indie rock or country scenes.
pop music is pretty much my life. i teach it. i lecture on it. i write about it. i research it. i help do exhibits about it.

  103. Hello!
My name is Jess and I’m the Marekting Manager over at exfm. We are a NYC music startup and we specialize in social music discovery. We’re on the verge of releasing our next generation website along with extension for Firefox and Safari (we already have one for Chrome), a new on-site player and our Android app (iPhone app is already available).
I handle all of our social media, events, and in-house PR. I’m a little late to the party due to covering Electric Zoo all weekend, but better late then never. It’s a pleasure it meet you all and of course by all means give us a try over at http://ex.fm. If you have any questions for me feel free to tweet me @jpage or @exfm. Cheers!

  104. Hello everyone! My name is Jocelyn and I am the Social Networking Coordinator for Coalition Music in Toronto, Canada.
Here at Coalition Music we are an artist management and record label company. Most recently we have begun to offer education programs (a highschool level, general music business course; soon to be launching Artist Entrepreneur course and a technical course for touring personnel), rehearsal spaces and a full service recording studio, all under the roof of our own office. Our management and label artists include Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven, Justin Nozuka, Hail The Villain, Faber Drive and USS. Our website is http://www.coalitionent.com
In social media and social networking, we want to be a resource for people who want to work in, know more about and learn about the music industry. We are always open to taking questions, sharing our experiences/thoughts and useful info on our Tumblr (http://coalitionent.tumblr.com) and we also host monthly Tweetchats on various topics with individuals in our office that have expertise in that area. Along with the chat, we post a corresponding blog on that topic cover any questions we didn’t get to during the chat.
September is “Get To Know Us” month at Coalition Music, so watch our Twitter and Tumblr for more updates on each of us at the company! Of course, we also want to get to know everyone as well, strike up a convo with us on Twitter!

  107. Hi Everyone!
I manage a band called The Impossible Shoelace, they can be found at facebook.com/theimpossibleshoelace . I also offer independent management consulting, helping out bands and artists trying to navigate this tricky industry we call the Music Business. I mostly work off of referrals from friends and colleagues, but am always open to networking and expanding my horizons.
I am also in the process of starting a publishing company, acquiring catalogs and administering copyrights for other artists. For now I’m mostly focusing on sync.
Feel free to e-mail me at BThompsonProductions@gmail.com

  108. Hi all-
My name is Jason and I am probably one of the few “classical” musician/composers on the site (although I HATE the word “classical”) I work mainly in the choral genre for “serious” composing but also work as a freelance composer in a variety of capacities (MIDI arranging, multimedia, etc.) I’m also ALWAYS sketching more mainstream pieces as well. One of the biggest problems I run in to is copyright protection when having to choose text for my compositions. Does anyone know a good place to pick up some good, practical advice on this subject, mainly with how to secure permission to use text NOT in the public domain? I received wonderful training as a musician and composer but received next to none when it comes to the business side.
I would also be interested in hooking up with any lyricist/poets out there for collaborative efforts.
    Drop me a line.

  109. Hi all –
My name is Jason and I am probably one of the few “classical” musician/composers on the site (although I do HATE the word “classical.”) I write mainly in the choral genre but also do freelance work for games, films, advertising and the like.
One of the things that I am always dealing with is permission to use text that is not in the public domain. I am always running across poetry that I would like to use in a piece but need to request permission to do so. What I am looking for is some solid and practical information on how one goes about requesting permission form authors, poets, etc. to use their words as the basis for a piece (basically a form letter and who to send it to.) My education was very heavy on the technical/musical side and very light on the business side.
I am also always sketching which have a more mainstream feel. I would be interested in hooking up with musicians/poets/lyricists to work with on a collaborative basis. Drop me a line!

  110. Hi Everyone, my name is Adrian, i’m a singer/songwriter/musician/filmmaker from Toronto, Ontario!
I’ve almost put together my new musical outfit which I intend to use for live gigs, recording and soundtracking my movie projects. The final element, a female acoustic guitarist, might be filled, although I’ve yet to see how it plays out.
Anyway, my musical styles include some reggae, pub acoustic singalongs, and some funk. I’ve recorded a demo ep that i was using to recruit musicians, it’s available from my website. Download it, tell me what you think. I’ve yet to launch my new band under my new band name, but if you like my sound, keep in touch with me on twitter @FunkLife67.
    My website! Obviously! http://www.FunkLife.ca
    Talk to you guys soon!

  111. I am an artist, producer and songwriter, working mostly these days in hip hop and electronic music styles. I am always looking for opportunities for my music to reach as many ears and eyes as possible, and would love to work with someone directly to achieve that goal and share in what is monetized from it,as well cross promotion and production for other artists and brands.

Teaser: I’m working on an information-oriented web project focused on crowdfunding music where we can all learn together. Keep your eyes peeled!
