Survey Shows Typical SXSW Attendee: Single, Male, Influential, Childless Home Owner

Schedorg-logoGuest post by Eliot Van Buskirk of Evolver.fm.

In our round-up of tools for attending the SXSW Film, Interactive, and Music festival last month in Austin, Texas, we recommended that people use Sched.org to manage their schedules. I’ve attended somewhere around ten SXSWs, and Sched.org is the best tool I’ve found for keeping one’s schedule straight at that festival, insofar as such a thing is possible.

Nearly 25,000 people logged in to Sched.org at SXSW and the site turned over a million pages from February to March, so we’re not the only ones who appreciate the ease with which it lets you create, edit, and share your event schedule across all of your platforms. As such, Sched.org has unique insights into the people who attended the event.

The site listed a staggering 8,375 official and unofficial events at SXSW 2012, which added up to 10,652 hours of stuff to see and hear. As for attendees, the exactly average person who attended SXSW and used Sched.org was a single, 31-year-old guy who owned a house and made over 80 grand a year. He’s an influential chap with over 14 times as many Twitter followers, 5 times as many Facebook friends, and a Klout score 40 percent higher than the average internet person. His favorite music includes the ACL Festival (ouch!), Radiohead (no alarms or surprises there), and the Beatles (no surprise there either).

We know, we know: This isn’t a music app. But it’s about data and our favorite event of the year, so we’re posting it anyway, courtesy of Sched.org spokesman Ben Westermann-Clark:
