2 Social Media Power Tools: FanMix & Mingly

Fanmix-logoOur recent discussion of Engagio led to other tools designed to organize one's social media conversations. FanMix is related to Engagio in that it manages one's conversations across social media accounts. Mingly focuses on the contacts across those accounts.

With Hootsuite becoming an ever more powerful all-in-one social media dashboard with its growing App Directory, competing social media power tools have to focus on providing new functionalities. As Engagio CEO/Founder William Mougayar stated in the comments on that post:

"I like to think that we're surfacing the signal from the social media noise. We're not interested in sucking up the whole stream like the other tools do. We are helping users figure out their social engagement more efficiently."

FanMix: Conversations

Prioritizing conversations is a smart way to cut through the noise especially if one views conversations as the heart of social media. Another tool for doing so is FanMix which is designed to:

"Manage all your social conversations on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, comment threads, and everywhere else from one dead-simple inbox, just like email."

In addition to their own email-like interface, FanMix works with Gmail via a Chrome extension.

Brad McCarty was particularly enthusiastic about managing conversations via FanMix.

Mingly: Connections

Mingly focuses on one's contacts rather than one's conversations in a form of social media contact management. As with other services employing an email-style user interface, Mingly has a Gmail option, a reminder that Gmail is becoming a powerful platform for web communication.

Mingly in action "collects, or aggregates, all your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Gmail contacts and neatly puts them into one simple dashboard."

When using Gmail:

"not only can you compose regular emails but you can also send messages from Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. All without leaving Gmail. Your contacts from these networks are filtered into one big, virtual address book, which you can organize into groups and filter by location or how you know them."

A demo video points out other features such as reminders when you haven't contacted an individual within a certain time period.

  1. Thanks Clyde for the great review.
We’re happy to hear that more and more people are using Fanmix and find that it’s helping make sense of all of their social conversations.
I’ve been using Mingly for a few months now and actually got the opportunity to meet with Tyler. It’s one of the best ways to keep all of your contacts organized.
    All the best,
    Drew Frey
