7digital Expands Effort To Encourage Music Tech Innovation

7digitalMany music technology entrepreneurs, developers, and start-ups have ideas that
usually sound great in theory (most overused term: “game-changer”), but it
isn’t until they actually get their hands dirty in the development of their
product that they begin to realize its shortcomings and concept fallacies. By
then, they might have already burned through whatever funding they had in the
bank, and then are left stuck with a product that they sadly realize won’t actually amount
to anything. To address this common issue among music tech visionaries, UK
based digital media company 7digital
is offering a new program specifically designed for music tech developers and
start-ups
called the “Prototype Package.”

In
essence, the Prototype Package is an API license and account management service
that enables third parties to build and test a live proof-of-concept of their rendition
of a new music experience. The company believes that the Prototype
Package addresses not only the need for proof-of-concept, but also product
iteration and ideas that need to go beyond high level designs before signing
long-term licensing contracts.

The
company designed the Prototype Package in hopes of helping developers for
real-world development, testing and debugging. It provides the tools, catalog and
infrastructure to quickly and cost-effectively build a functional model of a
new music service before commercial licensing – often a critical first step for
a new company looking to secure funding prior to going to market, or a major
enterprise corporation fleshing out an application in early stages.

“We
want to encourage broad innovation with music, as this is critical to the
future of the digital music marketplace,” said President of 7digital North
America, Vickie Nauman. “The 7digital platform and this Prototype Package give
developers the tools to help foster new music applications, to acquire funding
for bright ideas, and to new provide services for music fans. 7digital can
reduce the complexity in this process and help more of these great ideas become
a reality.”

7digital
supports a wide range of digital music products, including DMCA Radio services,
á la carte download stores, integrated purchasing inside music discovery apps,
mobile products on all operating systems, on-demand streaming, free music
voucher campaigns and promotional products. Third parties can now deploy their
application as a 7digital co-branded service or under a white label
agreement.

The company will be discussing more about their API Prototype Package at digitalmusic.org’s fall season Music Start Up Academy events in New York,
San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles and London. Those looking to learn more now
can contact sales(at)7digital(dot)com or can call the local office (found here).
