Janet Jackson’s Indie Launch “Unbreakable” Debuts At #1

image from www.celebrityaccess.comJanet Jackson's latest album Unbreakable, scored a number 1 hit on the Billboard 200 chart on its debut week. This marks the seventh time that Jackson has had a #1 album.

According to Billboard, Unbreakable sold 116,000 equivalent album units in its first week with 109,000 in pure album sales.

Her first release on her new label, the recently formed Rhythm Nation imprint distributed by BMG, "Unbreakable" represented a reunion between Jackson and her former producer/songwriter team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Jackson worked previously with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on her fourth studio album "Control," which also charted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 5 top singles, earning Jackson six Billboard Awards.

Jackson's management team, Jaime Mendoza and Jessica Davenport of JDJ Entertainment, and Stephen Roseberry and Jason Winters of Sterling Winters Company, said in a joint statement, "We congratulate Janet on her genius and this extraordinary accomplishment which is so brilliantly shared by her creative partners, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, as well as Janet's great BMG team that truly delivered, WME, Live Nation and Brad Wavra for excellence and great support."

Jackson is currently on the road supporting the album with a tour that kicked of on August 31st in Vancouver, B.C.
