It was one of the greatest performing experiences of my life. Most of the previous 600 shows I’ve played over the past decade or so have been either solo or fronting a 4-5 piece rock band. This new project demands no less than 10 players on stage. It is a throw-back, original 70s funk project with a full horn section. Laptops be damned!Wrangling 10 musicians is no easy feat. I’d consider myself a competent MD (music director) and since I wrote every song, scored the horn parts, had a hand in every part recorded and have listened to the record ad nauseam, I knew the parts intimately, inside and out. However, being an MD is so much more than knowing the music.
