The UK's Music Export Growth Scheme began awarding funds to support marketing music acts overseas earlier this year as part of a multi-year plan that will ultimately distribute £2.5 million in grants. The second round of funding was announced today for 14 acts across musical genres. Funds are intended to be used to promote artists internationally in order to encourage their commercial success.

The Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS) has identified 14 musical acts for support in their second round of funding. This round of awards will utilize almost £250,000, currently over $420,960, to promote acts in multiple genres from a number of cities.

Music Acts Receiving Support

  • Band of Skulls
  • Bo Ningen
  • Charli Taft
  • Christian Gregory
  • Dinosaur Pile-Up
  • Julia Biel
  • Lulu James
  • Metronomy
  • Savage Messiah
  • Skinny Lister
  • Slow Club
  • Smoke Fairies
  • Transition
  • Young Fathers

In contrast with U.S. government touring programs which are tied more directly to boosting the American brand worldwide, the Music Export Growth Scheme is part of the UK's support of exports and is designed as a business grant.

The announcement name checks British acts that "enjoyed breakthrough success overseas" including Bastille, Passenger, London Grammar and Alt-J as examples from 2013.

The first round of funding was awarded to another 14 acts in February.
