A Clear Example Why Festivals Should Be on Bandsintown Pro

Hondo Rodeo Fest used Bandsintown’s geo-targeted marketing and festival tools to turn a $2,250 investment into more than 10x that in ticket revenue.

Marketing a festival is not an easy thing to do.

Sure there are world-class artists that soak up a lot of visibility, local artists on the program leveraging their niche networks, and corporate sponsors renting out their brand positioning to elevate goodwill initiatives. All of that is great.

But digital marketing requires matching the product to the customer, and in cities with millions of residents, sometimes making sure the right message meets the right consumer at the right time is a major headache.

Enter: Phoenix’s Hondo Rodeo Fest. Launched at Chase Field in Phoenix in 2024, it's a three-day event combining an invitational professional rodeo, a free Western culture street festival, and a full-length nightly program of concerts. A case study published by Bandsintown Pro shows how this festival was able to use the tools offered by Bandsintown to effectively close that gap.

According to the case study, a $2,250 campaign for Hondo Rodeo Fest generated more than $24,000 in ticket revenue. The campaign alone delivered approximately 2,100 visits and 271 festival-pass sales, representing a 13% conversion rate and what Bandsintown calculates as a 10x return.

It's a clear demonstration of what Bandsintown Pro can do when a festival already has real audience demand embedded in its artist lineup. Let's take a closer look at those numbers.

What Is Hondo Rodeo Fest?

Hondo Rodeo Fest is not a conventional country music festival. Combining food and street vendors, live music concerts, and a pro-level rodeo competition, it's a hybrid event that has little duplicable precedents elsewhere from which to draw inspiration.

Yet, its inaugural edition brought more than 60,000 people to Chase Field, according to organizers. World-class rodeo competitors competed across eight events for a combined $1 million purse, while the music lineup included Hank Williams Jr., Whiskey Myers, Brooks & Dunn, Turnpike Troubadours, Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion.

That hybrid identity is one of Hondo Rodeo Fest’s biggest strengths — it is also what made the event such a ripe participant for a Bandsintown Pro for Festivals integration.

What the Case Study Shows

Bandsintown Pro’s Premium Festival Package gave Hondo Rodeo Fest a verified festival page, verified individual set listings and featured placements across Bandsintown’s homepage and relevant city pages. Those listings were also distributed beyond Bandsintown to platforms including Spotify, Shazam, Google Search and Apple Maps.

That meant a fan did not have to follow the festival (or even know its name) to encounter one of its shows while searching for an artist or consuming music elsewhere. Bandsintown begins with people who have already demonstrated interest in the artists appearing there.

The platform then adds geography.

Rather than promoting Hondo Rodeo Fest indiscriminately to every fan of every artist on the bill, Bandsintown could concentrate its campaign on relevant followers in and around the Phoenix market. It turned each artist’s distributed following into a geographically specific pool of potential ticket buyers.

That is particularly useful for newer festivals that have booked recognizable artists but have not yet spent years building their own mailing lists, customer profiles and returning audience.

The Right Message at the Right Moment

The Hondo campaign was also designed around multiple ticket-buying moments instead of relying on a single lineup announcement.

Bandsintown Pro delivered geo-targeted email and push notifications to artist followers when single-day tickets went on sale, when set times were announced and during the final week before the festival. “Last chance” reminders were sent both during festival week and the day before the event.

Custom email and push campaigns also reached a wider pool of country music fans who were not necessarily following one of the participating artists. In total, Bandsintown says it delivered 200,000 alerts: 105,000 emails and 95,000 push notifications. Those messages produced approximately 41,000 opens and 1,200 clicks, while the broader package ultimately generated 271 attributed pass sales.

But it's never about simply sending a lot of messages; It's about aligning those messages with specific artists, locations, and stages of the purchasing cycle.

The Hondo Rodeo Fest results do not guarantee that every $2,250 campaign will generate $24,000. Lineup strength, ticket pricing, market demand and campaign timing will always affect the outcome. What the case study shows is that festival marketing can be far more precise than buying impressions and "hoping the right people notice."

Hondo Rodeo Fest had rodeo fans, country fans, rock fans and local live music fans circling the same event from different directions. Bandsintown Pro helped bring them into one measurable ticket funnel.
