Just 14 months after launch, music marketing platform Zankme is shutting down. In an email to users the founder wrote, "Zankme is getting ready to shut its doors.. Zankme will stay open for the next 30 days, and on May 10th, 2014, be unavailable permanently."

No reason was given for the shutdown, but 2014 is shaping up to be a year of major consolidation in the artists services and direct to fan sectors.

On ZankMe, musicians uploaded music, videos and other digital content and printed custom download cards, stickers and t-shirt hangers that were attached to merch and CDs, sold or used as promotional giveaways. When fans redeem the cards, artists could capture the fan's email address and other data often lost in most transactions.
