A scene from Bohemian Rhapsody (20th Century Fox)Freddie Mercury and Queen biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' took the box office by storm over the weekend, earning $50 million in North American theaters and $122.5 million worldwide from 65 territories on its debut weekend.The film, which depicts the Mercury’s life, culminating in the band’s historic 1985 Live Aid performance in Wembley Stadium, features Rami Malek as Mercury, with Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech and Mike Myers in supporting roles.Rhapsody was produced by by Graham King and former Queen manager Jim Beach, with Brian May and Roger Taylor, both surviving members of Queen, served as creative consultants for the film.With an estimated production budget of $52 million to make, before marketing costs, according to Box Office Mojo, Rhapsody is on track to be a major hit for the studio.Rhapsody was up against some stiff competition for its debut as well.
