For the first half of the year US CD sales dropped to 270.6 million units down 4.2% compared with the same period last year. But Nielsen SoundScan figures showed digital sales giving the industry a lift. Sales of full digital albums jumped 126% to 14.7 million during the first half of the year with digital tracks sales up 77% to 281 million.

Combined overall sales show a 1/10th of a percentage point increase over the first half of 2005. Not much, but good news for an industry that has known only decline in recent years.
