Just as indie labels are beginning to emerge in China (Reuters) and foreign music companies of all

stripes were setting up shop in the country, the government’s Ministry Of Culture has decided to crack down. The government is now censoring or banning "offensive" content and making outside investment difficult according to the People’s Republic Daily.
Only weeks ago Gary Chen, CEO of leading Chinese download site Top100.cn was heralding his deal to
distribute hundreds of US indie labels via the Orchard. "This will be a great culture

exchange project and people here will gradually appreciate it," Chen told Hypebot in an exclusive interview. "And Chinese government support such a project."
Hypebot has contacted The Orchard and top100.cn and will provide an update
with their response as soon as it’s available.
