EU Considers 27 Country License

The EU Parliament is considering the establishment of a single copyright license for the use and sale of music across all 27 member countries. Currently companies like Amazon and iTunes are forced to negotiate country by country and create local sites to accommodate the resulting price differences. This maze of licenses stifles both commerce and innovation, but that could change.

“The offer of content online is growing more and more but the current regime is still locked into national territorial licensing, with the result that E.U. consumers are often prevented from legally watching content anytime, anywhere and on any platform,” reads the commissioners’ proposal.
