UPDATE 2: Things are apparently back to normal at facebook,com, but that was not the case all morning as Facebook users were unable to post status updates, photos and other content or make payments. Users trying to update got the message: "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.".
Small status update issues are not uncommon, but this one was global and lasted much longer according to numerous tech blogs and our own tests.
in a statement Facebook said: "Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused."
