Given it's reliance on love of Mom, apple pie and conservative values, it's hard to imagine country radio or CMT embracing a gay themed love song. But thanks to YouTube, a song and video by unsigned artist Steve Grand, is finding an audience, logging almost 450,000 views in the 6 days since it was posted. Grand made the $7000 video for "All American Boy" by maxing out his credit card.
The story comes from his own life, “I was a 13-year-old boy (at camp),” the 23-year-old singer-songwriter, told Pollstar from his hometown Chicago. “One of my counselors was warm and strong and he took an interest in me – not sexually, but as a friend, and it really moved me. I remember leaving with a horrible ache in my heart.”
Attention CMT and country radio: We dare you to make this a hit.
