At its core, Brooklyn, NY based Genius is a user-annotated encyclopedia of music. But in recent months, the site has been working closely with artists to create more original content and video, and partnered with sponsors for live events.

The new $15 million funding will allow for the expansion of those initiatives.

“Our mission at Genius is to be the No.1 brand in music, and because of the amazing work and vision of our team and our partners, we’re well on our way,” said Ilan Zechory, Genius co-founder and president in a statement. “We’re excited to find new ways to connect artists and fans and keep pushing the possibilities of music storytelling.”
