A new Google hack called G2P tests legal limits by using Google’s search engine technology to find often illegal mp3’s ready to be downloaded for free. Just type in an artist or song title at independent site G2P.org and it takes you to an official Google search page with results ready for
downloading.
It will be interesting to watch how the RIAA, Google, and the general public responds to this hard to trace but still illegal activity and how the courts interpret it. In the Grokster decision P2P’s were held liable because they encouraged and enabled illegal downloading. But with search technology providing convenience and an extra layer of anonymity. it’s how not to imagine that the service won’t be heavily used.
