Songtrader has confirmed the completion of its acquisition of Bandcamp from Epic Ganes, and about 50% of staff have lost their jobs in the wake.
The news trickled out Monday as just laid-off employees took to social media.
“About half the company was laid off today,” wrote laid-off Bandcamp Daily Editor JJ Skolnik, “some of the most incredible people I’ve ever worked with… and most of the incredible support staff, among many others. This is a loss, no two ways about it.”
In addition to Editorial and Support, the tech team was among the areas heavily gutted.
“After a comprehensive evaluation, including the importance of roles for smooth business operations and pre-existing functions at Songtradr, 50% of Bandcamp employees have accepted offers to join Songtradr,” confirmed a Songtradr spokesperson.
Bandcamp United, the union representing Bandcamp employees, had not yet answered requests for comment.
We’ll share more details as the story develops.
