eMusic Hits 100 Million Downloads Of 2 Million Track Indie Catalog

MP3 download pioneer eMusic has capped the year with a major milestone – 100 Million Downloads Sold – three
years after establishing its current subscription model and a only 11 months
since
breaking the 50 million download plateau. eMusic’s catalog has also doubled this year passing
the two million mark from 9800 diverse independent labels.

eMusic has commissioned the Barenaked
Ladies to write and record a song about the 100 millionth downloader, Michael
Brennan of Moorsetown, NJ.  A 48-year-old
visual artist, Brennan downloaded “Diamond Ring” from Delta bluesman
Mississippi Fred McDowell’s album on Arhoolie
Records.
