Ruckus Goes Ad-Supported Nationwide. Can It Slow College Downloading?

Ruckus which distributes music online to affiliated college campuses is expanding access to its ad-supported music download
service to any U.S. college student. Beginning today any student with a Generic_headphone_computer_20
valid university e-mail
account will be able to use the service to download music that is tethered subscription style to their
computer.

The move is made possible because of new deals cut with the four majors and some indies that allows Ruckus to pay a lower royalty rate. But given the fact that these downloads are tied to the single computer and not transferable to a portable device, will the new service have any real impact?
