Music-think-tank-guest-post Brian John Mitchell recalls how music in society has changed since the 1970s. Music was a social event where friends would gather to listen to a new vinyl record. A major change came with the invention of the Sony Walkman and headphones allowing people to listen to music anywhere. However, this encouraged people to listen to music alone rather than in groups.

According to Brian, music has been falling out of favor as a community event. With advances in technology, people are becoming more isolated.
