How To Publicize A Music Crowdfunding Campaign [Top Sites]

Radio-crowdfund-headerIt seems unlikely that during a crowdfunding campaign musicians will be able to develop substantial numbers of new fans willing to immediately support their work. However media coverage and related publicity can help encourage supporters to follow through and pledge. In addition, crowdfunding campaigns can be a hook to get media attention that may not result in immediate support but helps expand awareness of one's music.

As I and others have pointed out, raising money is not the only possible benefit of crowdfunding. If you have an appropriate story, it's possible to get coverage in all sorts of media outlets from music sites to local newspapers. In addition, an increasing range of sites are now featuring news about specific campaigns.

Music Sites Covering or Promoting Crowdfunding Campaigns

50K Music Mag started with a focus on Sellaband and now features musicians crowdfunding on a variety of platforms.

Radio Crowdfund offers "weekly tales of new music discovery from the crowdfunding wilderness" covered by Paul Schomer and includes crowdfunded music released in the previous 6 months.

theMusic.com.au is an Australian-focused music site with a regular series called We Want The Funds. They tend to feature Australian acts but I've seen other bands on there and the form at the end of each We Want The Funds column appears open to all.

Tone Deaf is another Australian music site that has a regular column called Crowdfunding Forecast that includes non-Australian acts. It's not exactly clear how best to submit info on your campaign but here's the contact page.

General Interest Sites Featuring Crowdfunding Campaigns

Crowdfunding Eye accepts article submissions about crowdfunding including specific campaigns discussed by the crowdfunders themselves.

Crowdfunding PR is a free press release posting site created by Crowd Crux that accepts press releases for possible inclusion.
