There Are 15,330 U.S. Radio Stations, But How Many Matter?

image from www.1015themusicplace.comThe FCC has released new numbers show 30,367 total licensed broadcast outlets (AM/FM/TV) in the United states.  That includes 4728 AM stations, 6613 commercial FM stations and 3989 educational/non-profit FM stations.  But with all of the options available online and via portable devices, how many still matter to you?

For me it's NPR, which admittedly is mostly nationally programmed and which I often listen to online, and 101.5 FM The Music Place, an all too rare locally owned, locally programmed commercial AAA and Americana radio station in Roanoke, Virginia (listen online).

  1. The most significant radio stations to me are NPR, as well as 91.9FM (independent Black college Jazz station), 103.3 FM (Hip-Hop/R&B), 107.9 (Hip-Hop), and 94.5(Hip-Hop)

  2. I believe every artist walks his or her own path and sets their own precedence. Therefore the stations that support you are the ones that matter. The ones who don’t, need to get it together.
Remember that, and you’ll become a better judge of knowing who your friends are as you climb the ladder to success
