Facebook Redesigns Like Button, Tests Star Ratings

image from cultureslurp.comFacebook has updated the design of its Like button for the first time since launch. The new design can be seen after the jump below.  Sites using the button will be automatically updated.  Facebook is also pairing the Like and Share buttons in a single embed, hoping sites and users will use both. Facebook also released new stats showing just how popular the feature is; and just in case Likes and Shares aren't enough, the company is also testing a new "star" ratings system.

Like buttons appear on 7.5 million websites, says Facebook and are viewed 22 billion times daily.  Facebook is also testing star ratings on Pages, according to a tip shared with TechCrunch.  A rating system of, for example, 1 to 5 stars would be a major shift for Facebook.  As TechCrunch points out,  "The number of Likes something has indicates how present it is in public consciousness, but not necessarily how people generally feel about it".

Here is the new Like button.  How do you like it?
