mindie logoiPhone app Mindie, jumps into the short social video space, with a musical twist that has caught the eye of an impressive list of Silicon valley investors. Mindi has just rasied  $1.2 million from SV Angel, Troy Carter and Atom Factory, Lowercase Capital, David Tisch, Dave Morin and Slow Ventures, Nick D’Aloisio, Betaworks, Pete Cashmore, Michael Arrington, Chris Howard, Cashmere Entertainment and other angels.

How Mindie Can Compete

mindieMindie users start with the song, then choose the video. But is that enough to attract Vine and Instagram users to build a large userbase? “Music is sticky and music is international,” Mindie co-founder Stanislas Coppin told re/code. “That’s not the case for Vine with jokes and comedy — that’s more local culture.”

“For hundreds of years, the general public have become accustomed to being photographed, but only just recently has the ability to be captured on video existed for the masses,” said veteran investor Brian Pokorny of SV Angel, “I think the element of music reduces the friction in capturing video and makes the entire experience enjoyable for all involved.”
