LyricFind Becomes Sole 3rd Party Representing Universal Music Publishing Group’s Lyrics
Yesterday LyricFind and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) announced a deal making LyricFind the sole third party able to offer future licenses for UMPG-controlled lyrics. UMPG will continue to handle direct licensing but the agreement with LyricFind is another major point of validation for the lyrics licensing service. In 2012 LyricFind was the first to license from all major music publishers in addition to licensing numerous indie publishers.
LyricFind is a true leader in supporting legal lyrics on the web. Such initiatives as Lyrics For Free, which provides a legal, free option for adding lyrics to one's website or blog, not only makes it easy for people who pirate by default to go legit but also to make money if they're drawing high traffic.
In 2012 LyricFind became the first to sign worldwide rights from all four major publishers. This was also apparently the first time lyrics for all the music publishers were available globally.
Yesterday's announcement presents another big deal for LyricFind as they become the "sole third party able to administer future licenses for lyrics controlled by UMPG":
"The contract, which is in effect as of May 1, 2014, not only allows LyricFind to search, display, distribute, transmit, and reproduce the lyrics of the roster of songwriters under UMPG’s umbrella, it also allows LyricFind to sublicense for display and sync to music sites, services and apps across the internet."
"UMPG songwriters will receive a share of the revenues generated by LyricFind."
LyricFind currently offers lyrics in "30 significant territories including USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Korea, Russia and India, with additional countries being added soon."
