Stony Plain RecordsEdmonton-based independent Stony Plain Records, one of Canada’s oldest indie roots labels, has struck an administration deal for their catalog with a new division of Canadian distributor Linus Entertainment.

The deal, which went into effect on July 1st, covers a historically significant catalog of roots and blues music that covers more than 30 years.

Founded in 1975 by Holger Peterson and Alvan Jahns Stony Plains has released more than 400 albums, including notable records by Canadian recording artists such as Lohn John Baldry, Ian Tyson, Sue Foley, Colin Linden, Paul Reddick, and Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne among others.

The label also provided a platform for artists from the U.S. including Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Steve Earle, and Joe Lewis Walker.

“We’re happy to be working with Geoff Kulawick at Linus Entertainment and proud to be associated with the Linus Entertainment & True North Records team,” Stony Plain president Holgar Peterson said in a press statement. “Transferring our catalog’s rights management to Linus Entertainment will ultimately take advantage of their marketing distribution and administrative capabilities and efficiencies while providing optimal services to our artists.”

Stony Plain’s distribution will continue to be handled by Warner Music Canada, ADA and The Orchard, as well as the label’s international distribution partners.
