PPL, SAMI Partner With Max Martin Startup Auddly For Metadata Management

image from celebrityaccess.comPPL and SAMI–collective management organizations from the UK and Sweden–have joined forces with Swedish start-up Auddly to support performers with the management of their sound recording metadata.

The agreement has led to the creation of a performer verification mechanism which will allow members of the PPL and SAMI to retrieve their International Performer Number (IPN) from Auddly’s app or web-based tool. That IPN number, which is used to identify performers in data exchanges between CMOs globally, will then be stored within Auddly’s database and used to ensure each performer’s name is correctly linked to their recordings thus improving the accuracy of royalty payments.

Commenting on the partnership, Niclas Molinder, Founder and CEO, Auddly said: “We are delighted to launch the CMO integration in Auddly as well as working closely together with PPL and SAMI in order to help musicians, producers and artists to manage their metadata efficiently.

“Capturing this data accurately and completely from the start enables CMOs to allocate money to performers, so this is a significant step towards securing correct compensation. Early data identifiers are key in order to form a sustainable music industry and this is an important part of making Auddly the global reference point for all song metadata.”

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer, PPL added: “Everyone in the music industry benefits from improved sound recording metadata management. Robust standards and effective identifiers reduce the cost of processing data and improve the accuracy of returns to performers and record companies.

“Auddly recognises this and the importance of capturing accurate and complete metadata about performer contributions to sound recordings early in the creative process. Our partnership with SAMI and Auddly fits perfectly with our wider strategic objective to continue standardising and improving the data supply chain across the world.”

Stefan Lagrell, Chief Executive Officer, SAMI said: “Improved sound recording metadata and effective unique identifiers for performers enable us to be even more effective in monetising performers rights and collecting for Swedish performers around the world.”

Auddly was founded by Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer Max Martin and former ABBA co-ABBA Björn Ulvaeus.
