Black Music Execs Are Finally Rising Faster

image from celebrityaccess.comBlack music industry executives are rising faster in 2019, according to Billboard Magazine. “We need to fight for our seat at the table,” one major label senior VP told Billboard’s Gail Mitchell. Over the past eight months, some 20 seats were added to that top executive table.

“If you think about it, there haven’t been 20 fucking black appointments like this in the last eight years,” the source told Billboard. “The Billboard article was a catalyst that gave people ammunition: ‘See, this is what we’re talking about.’”

The most prominent new appointment will be Jon Platt, who will take over as chairman/CEO at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, according to the trade mag.

Hip-hop/R&B was the top genre on Spotify last year.
