Madonna, Daddy Yankee, Led Zepplin, more added to National Recording Registry: Full list & Playlist of 2023 inductions
Recordings by Madonna, Daddy Yankee, The Eurythmics, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, and Queen Latifah are among the 25 added this week to the National Recording Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress.
Each year, the National Recording Registry honors creators and works that shape the nation’s musical legacy. Each recording must be at least ten years old.
This year’s class is particularly diverse, including “Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee, Christmas favorite “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, the first recording added from a video game, “Super Mario Bros. Theme” by Koji Kondo and albums including All Hail the Queen by Queen Latifah, Déjà vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Very First Mariachi Recordings by Cuarteto Coculense and more.
“The National Recording Registry preserves our history through recorded sound and reflects our nation’s diverse culture,” said Librarian of Congress head Carla Hayden. “The national library is proud to help ensure these recordings are preserved for generations to come, and we welcome the public’s input on what songs, speeches, podcasts, or recorded sounds we should preserve next. We received more than 1,100 public nominations this year for recordings to add to the registry.”
