Spotify claims rules now in effect will shift $1B to ‘Working Artists’

This week, we learned that new Spotify rules eliminating payments on the tens of millions of tracks that get less than 1,000 plays a year and a crackdown on so-called “junk tracks” are now in full effect.

But what does all this mean for other artists?

Hypebot Flashback Friday resurfaces a post from last year when Spotify first announced the changes and what they said it would mean for “working artists.”

…Taken together, the changes are designed to shift royalties from streams that many see as drains on the royalty pool and distribute the funds to ‘legitimate’ artists and labels.

The increased royalties will reportedly come from three new policies.
