Now in its fifth year, Bandcamp Friday was launched during the pandemic to support independent acts who could no longer tour. On select Fridays, Bandcamp waives its share of revenue, so all proceeds from the 24 hours of music and merch sales go directly artist and labels.

The $3.2 million in May 2nd sales means that since inception, Bandcamp Fridays have generated over $140 million in sales.

On other days, an average of 82% of every purchase on Bandcamp goes to the musician or label – typically within 24-48 hours. Overall revenue from fans now tops $1.5 billion since Bandcamp launched in 2008.

The next Bandcamp Friday will be on August 1st, 2025.

Recently, Bandcamp changed its default pricing for digital music to bring their platform in line with new industry standards for Luminate and its Billboard charts.

New Bandcamp default pricing:

  • Albums: increasing from $7 to $9
  • Tracks: increasing from $1 to $1.50

Bandcamp it also made the change because it says it reflects what fans are already choosing to pay.
